Meet Don Shelton

My name is Don Shelton.  I am an elected member of the City Council representing District 3 in the City of South Jordan.  As part of my role on the City Council, I serve on the Audit Committee, the Utah League of Cities and Towns Legislative Policy Committee, and was recently appointed to the Governor’s Commission on Housing Affordability.  I represent the City Council on the Senior Advisory Committee.  I am also the Chair of the Jordan River Commission.

I have lived in Salt Lake County nearly all my life and have been a resident of District 3 in South Jordan for over 30 years.  My wife, Robyn, and I have five children and eleven grandchildren.  We are blessed to have all of them nearby, many of them currently live in South Jordan.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  During my career as a financial advisor, I obtained a designation as a Certified Financial Planner™professional and as an Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor®.  I worked as a personal financial advisor for over 30 years.  I specialized in helping people retire and stay retired!  I founded Oquirrh Wealth Advisors, and their offices are still located here in South Jordan. During my career, I had the honor to serve as President of the Utah Chapter of the Financial Planning Association.

Several years ago, my neighbors and I felt concerned about a proposed new road near our neighborhood.  I discussed our concerns with the mayor and members of the City Council at the time, but ultimately, the road was still needed even though we weren’t happy about the decision.  A few weeks later, the mayor and a member of the city council approached me about running for office. After much contemplation, I decided to do so, believing that I could be responsive to concerned residents, even if I couldn’t always resolve their issues.  Serving you on the City Council has, at times, been challenging, but also the honor of a lifetime.  I hope you will review this website and reach out to me to discuss your thoughts.

Thanks so much,

Don Shelton
